The Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) on Wednesday alerted the community to false, misleading and deceptive information made on the following website http://www.dubaific.com/about-dfic.html. The website states that "Dubai Financial Investment Capital" is located in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), The Gate, East Wing, 13th Floor. This information is incorrect. Dubai Financial Investment Capital is not located in the DIFC, and is not affiliated with the DIFC, despite the use of the initials "DIFC" on the website. It is a contravention of DFSA Law and Rules for a person to represent that they are regulated by the DFSA, when they are not. The DFSA strongly advises members of the public not to deal with the firm or persons connected with the website. More»

Facebook shares have fallen heavily as the first lock-up period, which stops sales by early investors, ended. Shares fell by 6.27% to $19.87 at close of trade in New York, down from $20.74 on Wednesday. About 271 million shares become eligible to be sold on Thursday. Some 421 million shares have been trading since Facebook shares were floated in May at $38 each. Since then, Facebook's share price has fallen, amid worries over its strategy. In early trade on Thursday the shares were down by more than 6%. Lock-ups prevent company insiders from selling their shares in a newly-floated firm, and usually start to expire 90 days from the initial public offering (IPO). They are designed to prevent the share price from fluctuating wildly if too many investors decide to sell their shares all at once. Eligible sellers More»

Google Inc's "Nexus 7" tablet is off to an encouraging start, with major retailers running out of the gadgets as the Internet company's first entry in an increasingly crowded market showed up in U.S. stores on Friday. GameStop said on Friday it had already run through its first two allocations of the tablet, co-developed by Google and Taiwan's Asustek that starts at $199 and has drawn glowing reviews from major gadget reviewers. Sam's Club, the warehouse chain owned by Wal-Mart Stores Inc, and Staples listed the device as being out of stock on their websites as of Friday. Office Depot's website continued to offer the device for sale as of the afternoon. Google unveiled the 7-inch tablet, which the company hopes will allow it to better compete against Apple Inc and Amazon.com Inc and funnel more people into its trove of online content, at its annual developer conference in San Francisco at the end of June. A previously unknown hacker group has posted online the details of 450,000 user accounts and passwords it claims to have taken from a Yahoo server. The Ars Technica technology news website reported that the group, which calls itself D33DS Company, hacked into an unidentified subdomain of Yahoo's website where they retrieved unencrypted account details. A Yahoo spokesperson in Singapore declined to comment. The affected accounts appeared to belong to a voice-over-Internet-protocol, or VOIP, service called Yahoo Voices, which runs on Yahoo's instant messenger. The Voices service is powered by Jajah, a VOIP platform that was bought by Telefonica Europe BV in 2010. More»

The race to become Yahoo Inc's next chief executive appeared to have narrowed down to just interim CEO Ross Levinsohn after Hulu said its CEO Jason Kilar had pulled out of the running. Hulu said Kilar had "graciously declined" to be considered for the top job at one of Silicon Valley's best known Internet names. According to two sources with knowledge of the situation, Levinsohn and Kilar were the last names left on the Yahoo board's shortlist for permanent CEO of the company. Yahoo, the once iconic Internet company, has struggled to find its footing in the new digital world dominated by the likes of Apple, Google, Facebook, and Twitter. The company's leadership has been in a state of upheaval since turning down Microsoft's $44 billion takeover offer in 2008. Since that time, Yahoo has plowed through four CEOs in as many years, among them Terry Semel, co-founder Jerry Yang, Carol Bartz, and most recently, Scott Thompson. More»

Zynga Inc unveiled a social network for gamers dubbed "Zynga with Friends" on Tuesday, hoping to wean itself from a longstanding, symbiotic relationship with Facebook Inc that has shaped two of Silicon Valley's closely watched Internet companies. The game publisher, which has been under pressure to reverse a steep slide in stock price in recent months, said its new network will pair gamers with opponents and make features like player profiles, an activity stream and chat available for all users, regardless of whether they play Zynga games on mobile devices or on desktop computers. Zynga with Friends is "one network, one unified experience, and one social lobby that will for the first time connect all of our players, no matter where they're playing," Manuel Bronstein, a senior Zynga executive, told reporters at a press event in the company's headquarters in San Francisco. Google Inc. (GOOG), owner of the world’s most popular Internet search engine, said it received more than 1,000 requests from governments to remove blog posts or videos from its service in the last six months of 2011. The queries included court orders as well as requests from executives and police, and in some instances governments said the content violated local laws against hate speech, pornography, or defamation, Google said in a report. “Unfortunately, what we’ve seen over the past couple years has been troubling, and today is no different,” the Mountain View, California-based company said on its blog, its fifth release of statistics on removal requests. “It’s alarming not only because free expression is at risk, but because some of these requests come from countries you might not suspect -- Western democracies not typically associated with censorship.”according to Bloomberg. Facebook Inc is paying $55 million to $60 million to buy Face.com, according to people familiar with the matter, acquiring the company that provides the facial-recognition technology used by the world's largest social network to help users identify and tag photos. The deal bolsters one of Facebook's most popular features -- the sharing and handling of photos -- but the use of the startup's technology has spurred concerns about user privacy. The No. 1 social network will pay cash and stock for Face.com, potentially paying as much as $60 million, two sources with knowledge of the deal said. Media reports in past weeks have pegged the transaction at $80 million to $100 million. More»
